Luke Shadbolt (b. 1984, Terrigal) was born and raised on the NSW Central Coast of Australia. He studied Visual Communication at the University of Newcastle and has since freelanced as an art director and commercial photographer in Australia and internationally. Shadbolt has recently secured covers of Surfing World and Capture Magazine, directed a series of content pieces for Qantas and collaborated on the 2018/19 Winter lineup with Printworks, one of London’s largest performance venues. His first major solo photographic exhibition as a visual artist was staged by Michael Reid Sydney in 2016. His sculptural and abstract photography explores the duality of nature, language and sense of place, with a focus on the power and beauty of the ocean and the environment. Exploring the patterns and cycles involved in extreme natural occurences, he aims to renew an awareness and appreciation of the environment. His work has been exhibited extensively across Australia and Europe and has been purchased by collectors both nationally and internationally - with a particularly strong international following, a rarity for most contemporary Australian Artists. Careers highlights include being acquired by the collection of the Parliament of Australia in 2018, being chosen as a top 20 exhibitor of Photo London 2017 by Brian May (of Queen fame), being involved in WALLPOWER, a group exhibition of contemporary Australian photography currently touring Europe and his continued work with charitable organisations (such as take3forthesea, the surfrider foundation and parley.tv). He is represented by Michael Reid Gallery (Sydney and Berlin).
